Arrival of the First Wagons from the 600-Wagon Contract of Avan Rail to the National Fleet

A Beginning for the Largest Private Sector Wagon Manufacturing Contract in the History of Iran’s Rail Industry

In an official ceremony attended by economic leaders from Markazi Province, the first batch of custom wagons from Avan Rail, consisting of 10 multi-purpose freight wagons and 10 heavy tank wagons, was delivered to the operating company on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and added to the national rail fleet.

This shipment marks the beginning of the historic 600-wagon contract between Avan Rail and Derakhshan Iron & Steel Arak. The contract, finalized in December 2024, holds the title of the largest private sector freight wagon manufacturing contract in the history of the country’s railway system.

According to Avan’s Public Relations Department, this contract is aimed at supporting domestic production and is planned in two phases of 300 wagons each. In the first phase, the delivery of the wagons will continue until the end of September 2025, with the second phase starting immediately after to complete and deliver the total of 600 wagons within one year.

Over 10 Domestic Parts Manufacturers Have Started Operations

According to the CEO of Derakhshan Iron & Steel Arak, these wagons—except for the wheels and bearings—have been entirely produced with the capabilities of domestic manufacturers. This project has, to date, created opportunities for the reactivation or strengthening of more than 10 parts manufacturing units across the country.
